I figured it's high time I got back to my living room makeover, seriously. It's not that I haven't been working on it -- I have -- but it's taken me some time to decide on the exact look and feel I should go for. Here was my dilemma:
Styles: French eclectic, relaxed, cottage and island elements
Issue: How do I mix all those together?
Turns out it wasn't so hard after all. As an amateur designer, it just me a little longer, that's all.
When you think French design, romantic, traditional looking furniture comes to mind right? Something like this, no?
Not necessarily. Remember, my style is french eclectic, meaning a thoughtful mix of other related elements as well (to find your design style click the box to your left 'Find your Design style'). French country design is a little more relaxed, and mixes well with my love of all things cottage. Then layer on the beach / island idea, and while it gets a little more complicated, it still works. Finding a unifying theme is the key my friends.
I'm very much into stripes and french and beach themes play on that very well. Add to that my desire to have blue be the pop of color, in an otherwise mostly neutral room (with exception of my green walls).
Here's my mood / inspiration board to help guide me through the process. See if you can you find the unifying themes in the mood board below:

I'll share more on each piece as we progress, but for now, we're staying big picture. Can you see it?!
Speaking of stripes, they aren't always cool, in fact when dealt out by another individual, they are quite painful. I know someone who took many in my place :
Love to hear your thoughts. But he (Jesus) was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
Happy designing.
