The Big Reveal (Bedroom Makeover)!!!

Hey Designers!

My -- bedroom --  is -- complete! Makeover accomplished! Super excited :-) Let's get right into it, starting with the requisite before shots:

Before Bedroom  Makeover
Before - Old Dresser/Chest of Drawers

After - Bed
If I had to pick, I'd say this is my favorite item in the room. This headboard was the jump off point for this makeover, and heavily influenced my color scheme. It's probably the most modern thing in the room...
Bedside table and Shoe-case Transformation

Dresser and Mirror
If had to give a name for the theme in my bedroom it would be 'Eternal Spring / Summerland', note the birds, flowers, and butterflies scattered across the room. Those are my favorite times of year in North America.

Dresser and Reading Nook
Love this shot, it captures so many aspects of my personality, namely my love of music (and many years of musical training in violin and piano), nature lover (birds, butterflies, et al.), and my love of books (chair for reading). The one thing I'm not completely fond of is the chair. Do not buy chairs online people.

Pictures (these guys have been with me since grad school, over 6 years ago)
I picked this light switch cover up in a food market in Columbus, OH, it was such a great find, in a totally unexpected place.
N.B. my new crown moldings :-)

Second bedside table (stepladder transformed)
Originally I planned on having only one bedside table, but the room needs two lamps (no overhead light). This stepladder was something I thought a pretty good idea initially, I just wished I didn't buy it online, it's a little too small.
Window and drapes + Shoe-case
Moment of inspiration is right here... When I found these drapes, that's when I decided to go with a gray, yellow and ivory color scheme, which I thought brilliant at the time, and still do :-)

I'm thrilled to be done!!! In fact, I almost had a Halle Berry Oscar moment earlier today when I saw that it was all coming together... "I'd like to thank my Mom, all I wanted to do was make her proud (sob sob)."

But seriously, I have to give a big THANK YOU to a few folks, (1) My mother, who was my sounding board for my ideas and purchases, (2) You, the readers of this blog, for keeping me honest, and for your comments, feedback, ideas and general support. (3)And last but definitely not least, God, for giving me the idea to start this blog and this makeover journey. Yes, it wasn't mine at all, He gave me the guts to do this and made me realize how much room there was for beautifying both my home and my spiritual life. Now you're probably thinking that God may not care about this stuff, but check out what he says in Psalm 149:4

For the Lord takes pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
He said it, not me! LOL. So yes. I'm done, with the bedroom. What's next? I'll tell next week, just need some time to enjoy this makeover.

Just incase you want to know where I got all this stuff, the list is below.

What do you think? Be happy to hear your thoughts!

  3. Your room looks really beautiful Kyla, I especially like the violin on the wall, the yellow night stand and the yellow picture frames it makes a nice contrast with each other and the room, the wall decor with the animals is also a nice addition along with the animal pillows. You did a good job Kyla you hit everything on point.
