We're continuing with wall treatment options. In my last post I shared a few lower cost options for taking your walls from dull to fun and chic. This post gives you one more option for updating your walls, but it requires a little more cash. Mirrors my friends.
The great thing about using mirrors in interior design is that not only do they reflect light, but if positioned correctly, they can really open up a room and give the illusion of it being larger. Here are a few ways to use mirrors:
- Large mirror - floor to ceiling

I love this option because it's high impact with low commitment. It's a little pricier than buying a smaller mirror, but this is great for opening up the room. Can't help but point out how fun that wallpaper is :-)
2. Fun house mirror installation

I realy like this option, and just in case you're thinking you have to spend a boat load, take yourself to the nearest Home Goods, Marshalls, or discount store, and you'll see you don't have to spend much at all! Additionally, if you're looking for different colors as pictured above, don't forget spray paint is your friend :-)
3. Go traditional -- use accent mirrors
Come on! I know I'm not the only one who's wanted a great sunburst mirror. They can run quite pricey though, hence my delay in picking one up. If you're in a DIY mood click, here for directions on creating your own authentic and quite attractive sunburst mirror. Sunbursts aren't the only options you have though. There are many shapes to choose from, such as the porthole mirror in the upper right corner.
Feedback
"Who's the fairest of them all?" was the question asked of the Mirror in the tale of Snow White. Mirrors are brutually honest, as that insecure Queen soon discovered. And I've gotten some good feedback lately from some of readers of this blog, mostly around the fact that I hadn't blogged for quite a while. And it caused me to take a look at some of my work/life habits. Analysis: my personal life has suffered. For sometime I was completely focused on work.
Balance can be hard to achieve, especially in my job. I'm Type A, ambitious, and love a good challenge. Not all bad, but if not managed carefully, these traits can be destructive. In fact, it can really lead to being preoccupied with self. Additionally, finding time to really enjoy God's blessings can be tough in a busy city like NYC. I'm determined to make more time for personal stuff; yes, I'm redesigning my life. Starting with exercise! I'm going back to swimming and aerobics (yay!). I've also been vegan for the last 2 weeks, and it's not hard at all (just calls for more organization). I'll keep you updated on that.
Most importantly designers, losing focus of the most important things in life, love for God and our neighbors, is not something we should allow to happen. If it does, it means selfishness has taken over. Job 31: 6-8 says
Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity. If my step has turned out of the way, and my heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot has cleaved to my hands. Then let me sow, and let another eat...
Heavy stuff, right? Getting caught up with life and forgetting God is not something we can afford to do. Job is saying if that's the case, we might as well have someone else spend our entire income, without consulting us. What misery!
Think about it...
Kyla
