The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Hey Designers!

Last week I saw the movie 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' and it was hilarious! I mean, really funny. Think 'Calendar Girls' dry British humor but with men, and set in India.

Which brings me to the Indian architecture I couldn't help noticing while watching the movie. You guys should already know that I love things with a bit of history to them, and the hotel was just that, pretty run down, but endearing. The walls on the inside and outside were really cool, like they'd been tried, and tried, and withstood the test of time. I know you're probably wondering what on earth I'm talking about, but I couldn't find pics, so think Tomb Raiders on a smaller scale (no, not the tombs, but old temples, etc.) You'll just have to go see the movie :-)

I think I'll have to look into creating that aged effect, just for the fun of it. India, next vacation spot? Eat, Pray, Love!

Speaking of love, Christ advises us to get the good stuff:

18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich... Rev 3:18

Fire can destroy things, but it's also good for refining. It reveals purer, hardier content. I think of older buildings and furniture that way too. If they're still standing, and only need a little love (read updating, tweaking) then you know you have the good stuff, i.e. the tried and true, people. The tried and true.

What do you have in your life that won't crumble and withstand the test of time?

Happy designing!
