This was a pretty good weekend, perfect end to a very intense week. It was good not only because I wasn't working, but really because most of the time I was not focused on myself but on supporting others. Yes, it can do wonders.
What do I mean by this? My work environment is one that requires a high level of self-awareness, and always being 5 steps ahead of our clients. It also means I'm constantly assessing myself for areas of improvement, and this week there seemed to be so many I saw, that I couldn't help feeling a tad overwhelmed. This can be taxing, and a balance is needed. Taking the focus off myself for a couple days added tremendous value. I even decided not to talk about work, period. Here was my weekend:
Saturday - went to church as usual, caught up with friends, then had lunch with the fam, and ended the day visiting (group bible study and prayer) with a sick friend.
Sunday - attended a graduation to support a friend who graduated with an MBA. Then a late brunch with the fam, and a wee bit of shopping :-) Then it was back to reality and getting ready for the week.
But tonight, only a few minutes ago I read Isaiah 40 and was reminded that God, who "sitteth upon the circle of the earth" and controls everything, is the God I serve, and to encourage myself, all I need do is remember this passage. Here is one of my favorite verses in the chapter:
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
What a comfort?!
What do you do to encourage yourself?
Happy designing,
Kyla
