Choose Life: A Living Room Makeover

Hey there!

I know it's been a while sweethearts, I've hardly blogged, which is unforgivable in this business. I had to take a much needed hiatus as things just got a little too much to handle with my immensely busy schedule. I felt like death (combine a bad flu, allergies, with traveling, and see whatcha get), but I'm happy to say I've come back to life, and regained a significant measure of control (more exercise, better eating habits, lots of time with family, etc etc). And you know what, I missed this a lot. There was hardly a day that went by where I didn't think of ID and sharing my ideas with you all!

But back to ID, it's makeover time again, and my living room is up for a redo. Here's what it looks like right now:

 What will change?

  1. Window treatments: I'll probably remove those blinds and get black-out drapes in a similar color.
  2. Seating: the leather sofa bed (as useful and comfy as it is) has got to go, I plan on adding more seating since I like entertaining, whenever I have the energy.
  3. Coffee and side tables: while I love my little trunk, that's exactly the problem, it's too little. The side table covered in mirror #ugh. I've held on to them because they were here when I moved in, and I was watching my pennies (still am!)
  4. Rug: it's not a bad rug, it's one major flaw is that it's pink. When I first moved in the entire room was pink (shudders). I'm not joking. The flooring is the last remnant of that (thank You Lord).
  5. Molding: my favorite thing - wall -treatments - is a must do. I can't wait to see the difference a good chunk of dental molding will do for the room. I may throw in chair railing if the budget allows it.
  6. Mirror: as the pictures show, one entire wall is covered with mirror, and it's just toooo much! Add to that the mirror wall in the dining room, and on the staircase, and you have a situation, I mean a really bad problem. When I just moved in I was so spooked seeing myself so much in every room at night (even the kitchen).

Choose Life

Why do we get overwhelmed? I've realized these past few months that I feel that way typically when I start to worry about something. Meaning, I feel I at the mercy of something (or someone). However, since I believe that my life is guided by Christ, and I have released control of it to Him, why should there be cause for concern?

Deuteronomy 30  outlines the divinely inspired message given by Moses to the Israelites in the wilderness, following their Exodus from slavery in Egypt. That message is still relevant to us today; take verses 9 and 10:

And the Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in every work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, of your cattle, of your land, for good; for the Lord will again delight in prospering you, as He took delight in your fathers,
10 If you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with all your being (emphasis supplied)
If I do / follow verse 10 says, then I will experience verse 9. It's that simple. Prosperity and worry / feeling overwhelmed don't mix. At all. What do I have to stress about? The foundation of God's commandments are to love Him, ourselves, and others. My goal is to do just that, and prove Him at His word.

Happy designing!
